Show your mathematics to the world!

About

I am a mathematician at the University of Edinburgh and I want to do more to show people the beauty, relevance and depth of mathematics. On this blog I’ll aim to put up one photo per week of a mathematician’s blackboard, with a short explanation of the mathematics that’s on it. Please send me your photos if you think your board deserves to be shared with the world! You can send your photos to Julia.Collins@ed.ac.uk.

  1. What a great way to share mathematics! And a fun way to do it at that! 🙂

  2. Very cool blog. I’m looking forward to submitting my own boards. Just gotta get some bright, colorful chalk and dust off the old algebraic topology book.

I agree with the guys above. Very cool idea! Looking forward to more black/whiteboards full of math. 😀

Are this images free to reuse? A busy blackboard makes for a great background for maths-based websites 🙂

Thanks for asking. While most of the photos are taken by me, some of them are taken by others so it’s always best to ask if there’s a specific photo you would like to use. I’m usually happy to give permission so long as it’s for a not-for-profit use.
